Our current Strategic Plan runs from 2004-2008. Overall we are planning for growth according to our mission and expect the church to double in size during this period to about 800 adults and 200 children.THE BIG VISIONTo see God’s Kingdom extended in Kendal. To see many people in our town coming to know Jesus as their Saviour and then growing up as disciples of the King who in turn reach out to others to extend the Kingdom further. THE BIG MISSIONTo build a strong and healthy church of disciples of Jesus.Committing ourselves to worshipping God, learning His ways for our lives, using our gifts and abilities in the power of the Holy Spirit, and being obedient to His word and direction for our attitudes and actions as we look to serve God and one another and reach out to others. THE BIG GOALTo establish 64 cells in 8 clusters. And that’s just for adults! Alongside this runs the goal to create a new Youth Congregation (12-18s) with its own cell-group system. We anticipate a cell-church of 800 adults and 200 young people with about 100 people on the fringe yet to commit themselves to cell groups … and then there will be the children – we conservatively estimate that there will probably be a total of 300 under 12s involved in the life of the church. We are planning for a lot of new people! THE BIG CHALLENGETo resource and nurture the growth and keep the body healthyThis means establishing the structure for growth and resourcing it properly. Radical rethinking of how we ‘do’ church in the first ten years of the third millennium is critical and it is likely to look very different from the past models of the Anglican parish system. We remain committed to a wide view here taking into account the rethinking and planning going on at Diocesan and Deanery levels for mission and ministry in the town and countryside. We are certainly not empire building and want to ensure that our plans are affected by (and affect!) the vision and goals of Christians and other churches around us. Currently we are involved in an experiment with seven smaller rural churches in the Lyth Valley as we look to becoming a ‘Resource Church’ for developing mission and ministry within the deanery. We want to be known ‘rightly’ within the town as a loving, gracious and serving church which looks mainly outwards to the needs of others rather than inwards to its own satisfaction. |
