Welcome to St Thomas' Church!Welcome to our church and welcome to the market town of Kendal at the gateway to the Lake District. It really is great to see you!
We are a Church of England parish church serving the northern part of Kendal. People from within the parish and beyond are members of the church which has a relaxed and contemporary approach to worship and serving the community. Currently we have about 300 adults, 100 teenagers and 100 children in membership but the church community is much bigger than its declared membership and has large fuzzy edges that are full of opportunity and expression of who we are and what we are about
In essence, STK is simply a bunch of disciples of Jesus - all ages, types, styles and sizes - doing their best to worship God, reach out to others with the good news of Jesus for today and love and care for each other.
Everyone is welcome at STK whether they are of a different tradition or none at all. We welcome people who are not decided about the Christian faith and are maybe just looking and listening to find out more
STK gets labelled as 'Evangelical-Charismatic' but at its heart it is just a big mix of people who take the Bible seriously, believe that Jesus has won life for them forever through his death and resurrection, and trust in the Holy Spirit to continue the work of God in and through them today.
Worship is allWhen we gather for worship together we enjoy a modern style with our main services led by a worship band. We open the Bible and learn more about God's way for living our lives each day. We believe that prayer changes things and this is a key activity in the life of the church.
Our STK 'shape' is best understood using this triangle. We look up to God, in to one another and out to others. These three key points are kept in balance as we live our lives as disciples.
STK is very much a 'community church' with a very active weekly programme around families, children, young people and senior folk. The church itself has recently been re-ordered into a fantastic gathering and worship space. There is a large lounge attached... and plans to re-order this area some time soon into a better community gathering space over two levels with café, meeting rooms, youth space and offices with a large 'street' reception area serving it all
Currently, worship gatherings are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, but our next strategy (2009-13) has us developing a wider understanding of worship gatherings out and about in the community. We are not sure just yet what these will actually look like but we are stepping out with some ideas soon! back... Our Usual Services
